The Tatra Mountain Range (Polish
‚Tatry’) is located partly in Poland and partly in Slovakia. It is the highest mountain range in Poland (highest summit is Rysy with 2499 meters above sea level). The most
popular part of the mountains is the High Tatra. The rocks of the Tatra Mountains are mostly
composed of granite and have been shaped in the ice age. The typical
characteristics of the landscape include the U-form valleys, small mountain
lakes, waterfalls and moraines. The landscape is very diverse and
picturesque. The mountain lakes belong to the most beautiful characteristics of
the Tatra Mountains. The most popular ones are the Lake Morskie Oko and the Lakes in the
Valley of the Five Polish Lakes. All the hiking trails offer direct contact with nature and breathtaking
views. Large parts of the Tatra
Mountains are
protected in form of a national park. The rich animal and plant life of Tatra
is unique. The king of the mountains here is the brown bear that can still be found in the wild.

The most popular and
best-known place in the Tatra
Mountains is,
of course, Zakopane. This lively city is the winter sports capital of Poland. If you prefer a calmer a quieter place to stay there are also many
alternatives to Zakopane, e.g. Bukowina Tatrzanska, Szaflary,
Koscielisko, Zab, Poronin, Male Ciche, Murzasichle, Kiry, Chocholow. All
these places offer beautiful landscapes, charming wood architecture, regional ‘Gorale’
folklore and stylish holiday lodgings: cottages, houses, flats, rooms,
apartments.
